Culotte pants : The pants for the transitional period
The idea is (almost) entirely Italian: Elsa Schiaparelli arrives in Paris, at the urging of her friend Paul Poiret, where she meets some of the most influential artists of the time, such as Man Ray, Ducham, and Salvador Dali. Fashion was linked to the surrealist movement and ready to embrace innovation: in addition to her hat-shoe and statement jewelry, Elsa created the first culotte pants for Spanish tennis champion Lilí Álvarez for the Wimbledon tournament.
In 1931, sportswear contributed to women's liberation and the need to liberate the body. The design was then adopted in horse riding and cycling. (Culotte pants) recently appeared on Alessandra Mastronadi for the 2025 English Grand Slam.
